With an estimated population of 8,622,698, New York City is the most populated city of what people call “the nation of the nations”, the United States. On top of that, New York City is also the United States’ most visited city with over 50 million visitors every year. Although that number is really impressive, still it is not surprising because the Big Apple, without a doubt, is the dream of many.
If you are wondering why, here is a list of things that you can do only, in no other place in the world, but the city that never sleeps- New York City:
- Take a walk in Central Park

- Eat every type of pizza that the humankind had ever invented
Unlike Italy, where you can eat only the original Italian pizza, in New York City people have the chance to try every single type of pizza ever invented. New York style, wood-fired, Neapolitan, thick Sicilian style, L.A style- the list of the type of pizza that you can eat in New York City is simply endless! No wonder New York City is the dream of many! This explains it all!
- Get a ride in some of the yellow cabs that you often see in the movies
Getting a ride in a cab is usually not something one gets excited about, right? Well, that doesn’t really imply when people are in New York City. Truth to be told, many people say that they have never been so excited about seeing or getting a ride in a cab as they were the first time they saw or had a ride in some of the famous yellow caps of New York City that we all often see in the movies. So if you are about to visit New York City make sure to give a shot to this exciting experience!
- Hear hundreds of different languages in a single neighborhood
As already mentioned, New York City is the most visited city in the entire country and one of the most visited destinations worldwide. In fact, it is estimated that over 330,000 pedestrians pass through Times Square only on daily bases which means that the chances to hear different languages in one single neighborhood are higher than most of the cities in the word. In fact, according to the statistics conducted by Endangered Language Alliance, New York City is the most linguistically diverse city in the world with over 800 languages spoken across the 5 boroughs.
- Step on one of the world’s smallest real estate property
Many properties were demolished when New York City extended the 7th Avenue subway line into Greenwich Village back in the 1900s. However, city surveyors missed a 500-square-inch-triangle of David Hess’ property which inspired the Hess family to cover that tiny piece of concrete with a tile mosaic with a quite interesting statement “Property of the Hess Estate Which Has Never Been Dedicated For Public Purposes”. Later on the Hess family sold this tiny piece of real estate property to some of the surrounding companies, but still to this day the triangle mosaic stands there as a reminder of one of the world’s smallest real estate property.
- Walk through the streets feeling like a real movie star
Getting a ride in a yellow cap is not the only thing that will remind you of the many movies that you have seen. New York City’s streets have been the filming locations of hundreds of movies throughout the history- an achievement that not many cities in the world have reached. So to enhance the “movie star in NYC” experience, just get in some of those yellow caps and tell the driver to take you to a ride through the streets where Friends, Home Alone, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and many other movies and shows were filmed.
- Go shopping in United States’ largest department store
Having Macy’s Herald Square, New York City is proud to say that it has the largest department store in the United States, if not in the entire world. With 11 floors and more than 1.2 million square feet of retail space, Macy’s Herald Square is like a Paradise on Earth for everyone who is crazy passionate about shopping. On top of that, for all those shopping lovers there is also a historic tour where they can learn about the history of this popular retail chain and get a ride on the original wooden escalators.
