If there is one festival in Macedonia that managed to truly survive as it should then that is Makfest. Just in case you are wondering what we are talking about – Makfest is considered to be a real music tradition held each year in the town of Shtip and ever since 1986 when it first was established, it is the ‘birthplace’ of many Macedonian (and back then, Yugoslavian) music stars and evergreen hits.
Therefore, to refresh your memory and/or prove you the greatness of Macedonian music, here we go with the top 10 most catchy Makfest’s hits of all the time that no fan of good music could ever ignore:
Trajche Manev – OsamenÂ
“Osamen” by Trajche Manev was a winning song back in Makfest 1987. To this day, it remains to be one of the most popular Makfest songs ever.
Marijana I Rosana – PriznavamÂ
“Priznavam” is another evergreen Makfest song that was performed in 1988 by the two twin sisters Marija and Rosana.
Ljupka Dimitrovska – Zvona, ZvonatÂ
Another timeless Makfest song – “Zvonat, Zvonat”. Performed by Ljubka Dimitrovska, this evergreen hit was the winning song of Makfest 1990.
Olgica Dimitrovska – Svirete ja Zajdi, ZajdiÂ
Probably there isn’t a single person in Macedonia who doesn’t know the one and only – “Svirete ja Zajdi, Zajdi”. This was the winning song of 1992, performed by Olgica Dimitrovska.
Grupa Magija – MagijaÂ
The boy band Magija was the Macedonian version of Backstreet Boys back in the late 90s. Their hit which was titled after the name of the band – “Magija” was the winning song of Makfest 1998.
Toshe Proeski – Morska Zvezdo (1999)
Toshe Proeski, who died tragically in a car accident in 2007, to this day remains the most iconic Macedonian singer ever. His Makfest song “Morska Zvezdo” is indeed one of the best Makfest songs ever performed.
Adrijana Janevska & Marjan Stojanovski – Ljubov ti e adresa (winning song of 2000)
Aleksandra Pileva – Nema utehaÂ
The winning song of Makfest 2004 was “Nema uteha” by the pop-rock singer Aleksandra Pileva.
Adrian Gadxa ft. Vrchak – Nedopirliva
Performed by the Albanian-Macedonian R’n’B singer and dancer Adrian Gadxa, and the Macedonian rapper Vrchak, “Nedopirliva” is another catchy Makfest song that people love to this day. It was performed at Makfest 2007.
Elvir Mekic – Nekade posle 2 (2007)
Another R’n’B Makfest hit of 2007 – “Nekade Posle 2” by the Macedonian singer of Bosnian origin Elvir Mekic.
